Malachi 4:4-6

Introduction

• the Old Testament ends... Family breakdown, children rebelling...a curse.
• the Old Testament beginning ... Marriage, companionship, love... But it doesn't last past first family...corruption of marriage, family relationships, children breaking out

1. Why was this happening?

• Mal 4:4 - "Remember the law of Moses..."
• 2 Tim 3 - very misplaced love
• But when the gospel comes families can come back together

2. What can happen when relationships are 'in Christ'

• Col 3 - 'put off...' and 'put on...'
• Col 3:18-21 - instructions to family relationships

3. Three important truths to remember
   a) Be realistic: no one is perfect
   b) Be realistic: even if you were perfect it wouldn't mean others would respond perfectly
   c) Be realistic: we all make mistakes

4. Three comforts in your broken relationship
   a) The comfort of forgiveness
   b) The comfort of a 'family' in the Church
   c) The comfort of God as your Heavenly Father
