Paul’s Power-driven Pastoral Passion
Paul was an apostle, but he was also a pastor, church planter, and missionary (as well as a tentmaker!). He was obviously a dynamo! In fact he uses a word that is the root of our word dynamite – translated power. But Paul understood that the power of his ministry was found quite outside himself, it was the work of God. The signs, wonders and impact of the Word were the powerful work of the Holy Spirit. Whether we are looking for the salvation of sinners or the sanctification of the saints, effective and lively local churches or Kingdom work in far off regions, we must be diligent, and we may even be “proud” of our labors [as Paul was] but we humbly rely on the power of the Holy Spirt and the Word to do a work far beyond any man’s ability that salvation of souls.
