"Declaration of Mercy"

The Battle for Ai concludes with the king of Ai hung on a tree. The unfailing justice of God is displayed before all the world. The sin of Achan had turned Israel into God's enemies. But now God has brought them victory over their enemies and demonstrated to them that the covenant relationship is restored. Finally, they are brought to a ceremony of covenant renewal. It is not enough for Israel to see that God is faithful to the covenant, they must hear it. We are too quick to rely on what we can see around us. God provides for us to hear that He is faithful every Sunday in the proclamation of the Word.
