The Challenge of the Last Days, Part 2
Series Series in 2 Timothy (2008)
Aim: To be lovers of the God of truth (in the last days).
Doctrine: The last days help separate truth-lovers from truth-despisers. This has little to do with knowledge, but it has a lot to do with faithfulness.
Exegesis: The nature of truth-resisters in the last days: they prey on weak souls (employing pedantry) (vv. 6-7); they rebel against God's authority structures (v. 8); they fail miserably (and shamefully) (v. 9).
Further application: How to treasure the truth rather than fight against it: recognize that the truth is unchangeable, being centered in Christ, and realize that it is very pleasant to embrace the truth.
Key verse: v. 8 ''Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith...''
