We are to confess our sins, but it is the justifying righteousness that cleanses from sin. There is a judicial aspect in forgiveness as well as an experiential aspect. True confession assures forgiveness because of the faithfulness of God. True forgiveness is grounded on the truth that God is equally just. To deny being a sinner is to charge God with lying and indicates that the Word is in such a person.
