Friendship and Faithfulness

Jonathan and David are exemplary of true friendship and as the chapter describes their interaction in crisis we see

  1. Christ-like Love - Jonathan shows himself to be a friend in need and a true friend in crisis who is marked by selflessness, kindness and loyalty
  2. Divine purpose - as David falters in his faith Jonathan shows him that even in crisis we ought to be sure of God's promises and confident in God's purposes
  3. Covenant Faithfulness - the covenant between the two men, which drives the action in the chapter, is wonderful but pales in comparison to the covenant relationship between God and His people
