Genesis 6:8-22; 7:1-5

This section of Chapter 6 informs us how Noah found grace in God's eyes. Noah built the ark and saved his family and some animals per God's instructions. God sent the great flood and destroyed all the evil men on earth at that time, save Noah, his family, and select animals. It also gives us information on Noah's descendants.

11 ¶ The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. “Corrupt” means “wasted away”. The world had become a wasteland. Mankind was getting more violent every day. Today is very much like the days of Noah. Men go after everything evil thing of the world: power, money, the occult, etc.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. Again, corrupt means wasted. God's creation is being wasted by mankind. The only people God saw doing any good on the earth was Noah and his family.
13 ¶ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. God says His creation has become so awful that He's going to destroy it, wipe it out.
14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. Notice this: the ark is a picture of our salvation. We don't know exactly what gopher wood is today. The word “pitch” is a Hebrew word means “tar” or “atonement, covering”. Put the covering on the inside and the outside. Christ covers us inside and out with His atonement, just like He did Noah and the ark.
