The Fool

At first glance, it might appear that Samuel was harsh with Saul. After all, Samuel hadn't come after 7 days as he was expected to.

Saul makes a foolish oath that affects not only himself but his son, Jonathan. It also affects the rest of his life.

We need to beware religion that goes beyond Scripture. We see the people here violating God's Law as a result of Saul's sinful oath.

We see the temptation to add requirement to Scripture and must be careful. We ought never to fear people rather than god.

Do not be like Saul. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.
