Egypt Healed: Isaiah's Prophecy Describing the Conversion of Egypt

Idea: God will "heal" Egypt. Or in other words, we expect God to bring about great revival among descendents of Egypt. This expectation shapes our hopes, prayers, and mission strategy.

Intro: Isaiah uses a series of paragraphs that all start with the phrase, “In that day...” to highlight the promise that God will heal Egypt, or will bring revival to Egypt.

1. In that day Egypt will be fearful like women.

2. In that day, there will be one language and one Lord. The curse of the division of languages will be healed eg. Pentecost.

3. In that day there will be reconciliation. Egypt will be marked by true worship of the covenant God of Israel.

4. In that day the world will be united in true worship. Assyria will join Egypt in serving the LORD.

5. In that day, Egyptians and Assyrians will be coequal with Jews as the people of God. God uses striking language to call Egypt and Assyria "My people" and "the work of My hands" along with Israel, "My inheritance."

Conclusion: This prophecy shapes our view of missions. We expect, pray, and labor for such revival of Egypt through the preaching of Christ. We expose non-Christians to the emptiness of their worldviews. We treat believers as genuine brothers and sisters in Christ no matter where their nationality or standing in society.
