God, The Father

It is very noticeable in Evangelical circles that God, our heavenly Father, rarely gets a mention. Even our Lord Jesus Christ often has His title of Lord omitted. Both of these titles convey to us that these are titles of authority. I suspect that this is the reason for the omissions. there is a great deal of lawlessness in Evangelical circles because a lot of professing Christians do like to be under authority. "Jesus" is a nice comfortable title that conveys a nice soft person who doesn't make too many demands upon us, whereas the titles of Lord and Father immediately convey that we are under authority and ought to honour and obey the Godhead. There is, perhaps, a sub conscious notion that Jesus is the one who appeased the wrath of an angry God who demanded punishment before He would forgive our sins and that Jesus was the victim that The Father demanded should pay the penalty. This notion has been in recent years become increasingly manifest when Evangelicals, falsely so called have come out in the open and denied that Christ was punished. Indeed, Steve Chalke described the doctrine of substitutionary atonement as "Cosmic child abuse".
