Previously Satan had made two significant efforts to topple the early church. He tried money with Ananias and Sapphira and when that didn't work he tried murder with Stephen. Now Satan has moved on to the sincerest form of flattery mimicry or imitation. He was setting Simon up to be the great pretender.
