When you're up to your mandible in manure

Some sermons require unusual titles. The Hebrew language of Isaiah 25 gives a vivid picture of God's judgment upon Moab. Moab was the child born of an illicit relationship between Lot and one of his daughters. Moab represents what happens when we doubt God and try to do things our own way. In Isaiah 25, God's judgment upon Moab is that Moab would be neck-deep in watery deng trying to swim their way through it. In other words, they would be swimming in their own sewage. So this sermon could be entitled "Swimmning through sewage," "Freestyling through fertilizer," "the Poo-trification of the Soul" or many other colorful titles. The vivid picture leave us with one poignant choice. We can try thing our own way based on our doubt of God. Or we can trust God even when we don't understand what He is doing. These two paths have remarkably different outcomes. The path of doubt is described in Isaiah 25:9-12 while the path of trust is described in Isaiah 26:1-3.
