Source of Spiritual Blessings?

263

One reaps what one sows! There are consequences for one's sanctions, both positive and negative. The principle of reaping what one sows was embedded in the Law given by God through Moses. In Deuteronomy 28, God states both the blessings that come from obedience and the curses from disobedience. And while God promised peace, prosperity, and protection, does obedience to the law bring true spiritual blessings? Can a person be be saved, declared to be right with God by keeping the law? Or do we receive God's ultimate blessings of salvation and the Spirit by faith in Jesus Christ? Citing the Galatians' own experience, Paul asks whether the Father supplied the Spirit and power by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith. The weakness of the law was the lack of the Spirit's power to perform it. The Spirit and the power is the product of faith in Christ. And then Paul cites the example of Abraham, the one whom the false teachers looked to as their spiritual father. Was he justified in God's sight by being circumcised or by simply trusting God to keep His promise? And how do sons of Abraham receive the ultimate spiritual blessing of salvation? By doing the law or by the hearing of faith? And how are Gentiles connected to Abraham's blessing? Does the church today replace Israel in God's plan? This sermon seeks to answer these questions as we explore the source of our Spiritual blessings.
