Destroying the Devil and Delivering the Saints

Main Idea: Jesus came to die for people like us!

• Incarnation of Jesus: Jesus partook of flesh and blood (13b-14b)

                                      Just as “the children” by nature share with each other (14a)
                                      “The children” = those whom God has given to Jesus (13b)

                      • Death of Jesus:  So that through Jesus’ own death…

                                      He might destroy Satan (render him powerless) (14)
                                                   Jesus had to die for His children (9c)
                                                   Jesus had to die in order to destroy Satan (14c)
                                                   Jesus had to become a human in order to die (14ab)

 He might deliver us lifelong slaves (set us free) (15a)
 Lifelong slavery through fear of death (15b)
 Jesus delivers slaves from death by His death (15)

                                        He might help us (take hold of us) (16) (Jer 31:32)
                                                     Jesus doesn’t help angels (16a)
                                                     Jesus does help us (“offspring of Abraham”)! (16b)
