But Their Hearts Were Hardened

Marks purpose is to show us the need to believe and embrace who Christ is and what He came to do. The first half of the book emphasizes believing in the person of Christ. In Chapter 5 we see faith in Him: Jairus seeks Jesus to heal his daughter, the woman with an issue of blood seeks Jesus for healing. At the same time, the disciples, even though they are sent out to preach, even though they see Jesus feed thousands with a few loaves and fishes, even though Jesus comes walking to them on water, their hearts were hardened. They are more like the people of Nazareth who oppose Jesus.
