Series Series on the Death of Christ
We will consider four separate headings:
Regeneration
Deliverance
Sanctification
Preservation
Regeneration
Louis Berkhof: 'That act of God by which the principle of the new life is implanted in man, and the governing disposition of the soul is made holy.'
- Deliverance
John 8:36 'If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.
ALL THOSE FOR WHOM CHRIST DIED EXPERIENCE DELIVERANCE FROM THE POWER OF REMAINING SIN.....
- Sanctification......
Christ not only satisfied the justice of God in His substitutionary life and death.....He also provided for the renewing of His people that they might be conformed more and more to His image.PERSONAL HOLINESS IS JUST AS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF SALVATION AS IS THE FORGIVENESS OF SIN.There are three aspects of sanctification which we will consider briefly.......
(1) Definitive
(2) Progressive
(3) Climatic
- Preservation...
Heb 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
The Death of Christ made by Israel's high priest had to be repeated every year. The Atonement which was made by Christ....was once for all....its virtue and efficacy are eternal. It is true that a perfect, unforfeitable, eternal salvation has been procured for His own people.
YET....we must always keep in mind that He preserves His people through those means which He has ordained.
HE PRESERVES IN THE PATH OF PRACTICAL GODLINESS...NOT IN A COURSE OF CARNAL
