SUMMARY: In order to explain the meaning of the promised New Covenant that God had now instituted through the work of Christ, the author of Hebrews must establish Christ’s superiority over all others as the Son of God; His accomplishments as the perfect man; and His high priestly work on behalf of the elect according to the eternal order of Melchizedek.

I. CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD.
A. Superior to the Prophets, Heb. 1:1.
B. Superior to the Angels (Heb. 1:4―2:16).
-As a Messenger
-As a Mediator
-As a Minister

C. Christ is Superior to Moses (Heb. 3:1-6).
-The greatness of Moses.
-The superiority of Christ.

D. Christ is also Superior to Joshua (Heb. 3:7―4:17).
-The greatness of Joshua.
-The superiority of Christ.

E. Christ, as fully God, is Superior to All.
-The rightful Heir of all things.
-The brightness of His glory.
