Today... you're going to hear a lecture on Psalm 22:1 that you will never hear anywhere else... not now, and probably not ever.

But we got here because we're in 2 Kings 1 and 2. And we got there because we're in Romans 5:12. ...Confused yet? Well, this sermon might help you get unconfused... or not.

Psalm 22:1 says My God my God why has thou forsaken me? But to understand it you have to combine 2 Kings 1 and 2 with Matthew 27:38-46... THEN you can look at Psalm 22:1.

Here is your math formula for today:
2 Kings 1 + 2 Kings 2 = Psalm 22:1

Now... why does Christ say Psalm 22:1 on the cross? Is it because he's sad or week? If we wish that were so, that would be us, putting our weaknesses on the Lord God Almighty - Jesus Christ. Understand... He has perfect humanity, we have flawed humanity. He is Almighty God. We are not. So it's not a good idea to anthropomorphize Jesus Christ.

Now let’s go to Matthew 27:38-46

What is the Darkness for? It can't be because God cannot stand to look at sin. Go to all the passages of Scripture where God turns the lights off. It’s always to get people’s attention. And they always do one thing... they shut up. The Roman executioners know what the darkness is and Who it's for. They are all saved. They are the "them" in Father, forgive them... Now if "forgive them" is given to the Romans, who is the "My God, my God ..." for?

God says these two things from the cross: "My God..." and "...I commend my spirit." You have to ask... Who are these two statements for? Pastor starts you down that path for later on with the following verses:

Psalm 22:1
2 Kings 1-2
Matthew 27:38-46
Luke 23:32-46
