Debate: Larry Wessels Versus Two Jehovah's Witnesses at a University Study Center

1,683 ( 1,306 | 377 )

The debate began with a discussion of the Jehovah's Witness bible called "The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures" which was translated by men who were not Greek or Hebrew scholars but were rather members of the "Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses." From there the discussion progressed to why the Jehovah's Witnesses insist on the divine tetragrammaton ((from Greek τετραγράμματον, meaning "[a word] having four letters") refers to the name of the God of Israel YHWH (Hebrew: יהוה‎) used in the Hebrew Bible) being translated as only "Jehovah" (a transliteration which first appeared in the 1530 Tyndale Bible). Next, the discussion touched on the biblical doctrine of the Trinity & angels. The many erroneous false prophecies of the Jehovah's Witnesses were next examined in view of their prediction of 1975 as Armageddon & the end of 6000 years of earthly existence since the creation of Adam. The Jehovah's Witness denial of life saving blood tranfusions which has resulted in the deaths of many JWs & their kids is discussed followed by the flickering "New Light" of Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society ever changing back & forth theological doctrines. An example of unstable & shifting Jehovah's Witness doctrine follows:

Will the men of Sodom be resurrected?

The Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society says:

YES ("Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence," July 1879, page 8)

NO ("The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom," June 1, 1952, p. 338)

YES (The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom," Aug. 1, 1965, p. 479)

NO ("The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom," June 1, 1988, p. 31)

YES (1988 book "Insight on the Scriptures," p. 985)
