Seek the Lord and Live

In Amos 5:1-17 we hear Amos' lament over Israel in which he makes six observations concerning the coming judgment: (1) The judgment is from God (vs. 1-2, 8-9); (2) the judgment is devastating and yet hopeful (v. 3); (3) the judgment is coming because Israel worships falsely (vs. 4-6); (4) the judgment is coming because Israel is unjust (vs. 7, 10-13); (5) the judgment is avoidable (vs. 4, 6a, 14-15); and (6) the judgment will cause weeping and mourning (vs. 16-17).
