Preaching to Post-Christian Ears

The men of Issachar were commended because they understood the times and what Israel needed to do. That was the need of the hour then, and it is the need of the hour now. Francis Schaeffer called the times in which we live "post-Christian." Some call them "post-modern." But Ecclesiastes says there is nothing new under the sun. The new "post-Christian" and "post-modern" times are just the old paganism given a new coat of paint. We can wring our hands, lamenting the times in which we live and longing for the good old days, or we can see our times in the same way that the prophets and apostles saw theirs: we have the opportunity to preach the gospel to people who know nothing about Jesus Christ...
