The sovereign head of the church (1) His absolute authority

The benefits of the cross and the implications of the crown are inseparably united. The saints have been delivered from the power of darkness, and - in doing so - have been translated into the kingdom of Christ, our Ransomer and our Ruler.

As the one head of the one church, with whom we have an organic unity, Christ also possesses sole supremacy in his church, and consequently absolute authority.

While we may sign up to the principle, here we consider how - in practice - we often effectively restrict, rival, or replace Christ's absolute authority in our individual and corporate lives. By contrast, it is in willing, cheerful and ready obedience to this authority that the redeemed of Christ find true blessing and security.
