Faith is very important, both for our salvation and for our Christian life and experience.

1. The foundation of a life of faith
   Faith gives the realities found in the word of God real existence in our lives. 'By faith, we understand.' How can you increase your faith? Read the Bible and believe what it says.

2. The practical choices of a life of faith
   It's not enough to believe the word of God theoretically. Faith is something which must be lived out and acted upon, because it makes such enormous claims about these unseen realities.

3. The practical results of a life of faith
   Faith has produced amazing fruit in this world. It's not just for Christian character. It changes things on the planet (though sometimes we can only see that reality from afar).

Conclusion
Here was a people who was being tempted to go back to the old ways, to the ways of their fathers. And understand this man's pastoral genius. He says, 'I want you to go back to the old ways. God wants you to go back to the old ways. All these lived and died by faith.'
