Believer's Unbelief

Much of the professing Christian world believes that the gospel regenerates men. The story of Peter's good confession (Matt 16:13ff) proves that he was a regenerate man (I John 5:1, John 8:47). His subsequent denial of fundamental tenets of the gospel both immediately following his good profession (Matt 16:22) and after the resurrection had occurred (Mark 16:11-14) is ironclad proof that believing the gospel does not regenerate men. Understanding is a lagging indictor of a grace imparted (Gal 5:22, Heb 11:1), not a prerequisite to obtaining eternal life.

This is the doctrine of the little flock and is "the distinctive of a people who are willing to believe... the bible's testimony rather than erect giant edifaces of religion based on the capability of men to make decisions which improve upon an incomplete work based on a Jesus who did not get the job done."
