Rebel Christians

28

The flesh and the Spirit are contrary to one another. Rebelling means you are resisting, arise, or are against something, some authority, or tradition and in our case the old man. There are a few times when rebellion is a good thing. We need to rebel against our flesh; rise up and tell self that the Spirit is the one who is supposed to be in charge. It is the human nature to do things such as tell a lie. We don't have to be taught these things it is our nature or in our DNA. Our nature says when we see the police to assume we may have done something wrong (since we usually did) and ask ourselves 'what did I do?' Our nature is to sin. Someone does something to me, I will get back at him. We do also have in our nature to do good. And we also have, if saved, a new nature that is spiritual and that puts us in a kind of tug-of-war. The Holy Spirit on one side and the old nature (flesh) on the other. Which ever way we yield to is the side that will win, because by yielding we resist less. The flesh and the spirit have different appetites; both are hungry and opposing one another to be regularly fed. We can't do it by ourselves though, we must lean on one or the other. We can't just determine to do right without the power of the Holy Spirit. We might do okay for a while by ourselves; but we will fall because we leaned on our human nature. The right spirit will make the difference. And the spirit that follows the Holy Spirit will see the victory. Will be in open rebellion against his flesh.
