Scoffers Shall Come

Peter touches on another point that the saints must contend with in the last days. Not only will false teachers come among them in the churches, but also scoffers shall come. These particularly ridicule the saints for believing (among other things) in the second coming of Jesus Christ. Their objection to this truth is that all things have continued as they have since the beginning of creation, which is a lie. It is a lie because the old world of Noah's day perished under the judgment of water, and this present world is reserved to be judged by fire. The implication being that just as sure as this present world shall be dissolved so is the second coming of Christ.
