"Try Harder" Churches
Holiness mistake. It was preached that you should reach a level of perfection was supposed to be absolute and instantaneous. Therefore it left people with two options: be perfect or pretend to be perfect.
There was a lot of teaching on how a Christian should act, which is not always bad, but if it is done as if acting correctly is the end goal then it misses the point. It should be about heart change. About having the faith to believe God changes hearts. A bad tree cannot produce good fruit, but it can pretend to. We need to be careful not to simply convince people they just need to try harder to act right. Christians should exhibit a certain behavior, most notably loving God and others, but they should not simply be acting. God can change us.
