Five Sound Bites from the Reformation

247 ( 176 | 71 )

A crisis arose when Martin Luther, a German monk began to study Romans and Galatians. After pondering day and night the verse in Romans 1:17 that says, “…the just shall live by faith”, by God’s providence he realized that the justice of God is that righteousness by which through grace and sheer mercy, God justifies us through faith. This was a faith changing epiphany for Luther. Now with Luther’s regeneration and proper understanding of this verse he began to see the contrast between what the bible taught and what the church was teaching. This led to the epic turning point that would forever transform the Christian church. On October 31st 1517, the evening before All Saints Day when relics were to be honored and indulgences granted, Luther marched up to the castle door of the Wittenberg church and nail there his 95 thesis in Latin for scholarly debate about the corruptions that he found amongst the clergy. This was the spark that set ablaze the purifying fire of the protestant reformation out of which was conceived the five sound bites of the reformation known to us today as the five solas!
