The Defeat of the City

The City of God is the goal of all history. As God's people journey to this goal (with God himself as their Shepherd) they meet deep opposition from the city of man. This is pictured as Babylon (especially in Revelation 17-18), and it is empowered by the evil one himself. In Jesus, God defeats the city of man, by defeating the evil one within it.
