The Secret of God's Kingdom Revealed

115 ( 83 | 32 )

From last Sunday's sermon on the parable of the sower (Mark 4.1-20) we heard that Jesus spoke in parables, not to increase people's understanding of the kingdom of God but to confirm them in their blindness. The section that we are looking at this week (Mark 4.21-34) continues this message: the truth of the kingdom is hidden to those who persist in unbelief but is revealed in all its glory to those who believe in Jesus, the King. The secret of God's Kingdom is something he wants us to know, but is not knowable unless he reveals it to us. As Jesus said to Nicodemus, 'unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God' (John 3). That rebirth is only possible through faith in Jesus Christ (John 1.12-13). The message is the same for us today. We only know the action of God's kingdom because we know the one who is in charge: Jesus Himself is the secret of the kingdom revealed to those who believe in Him. How essential it is for us to know Him! Like the Apostle Paul, let us count everything as loss for the sake of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus our Lord.
