Endurance and Discipline

The discouraged and floundering Hebrew Christians needed to understand that they were suffering because God was saving them (or perfecting them—sanctifying them), a process that was likened to a father training his children. "It is for child-training that you have to endure" (Heb. 12:7).

Verses 4-11 demonstrate that truth, illustrating it with the divine idea of the biblical family where the father is given responsibility to train his children by instruction and chastening.
