Spiritual Adultery
Series 1 John
The first in the series of sermons on the seventh commandment. Pastor Stanfield discusses the definition of adultery using Hosea 4 and 5.
The sin of adultery is multifaceted and is not just related to the union of marriage. Yes, it is the breech of the marriage vows, but marriage also represents the relationship we have with Jesus.
Follow along in Hosea and see how Gomer's harlotry paralleled Israel's harlotry towards God. We are the property of God, just as husband and wife are property of each other.
Consider the root of adultery, it is becoming the god of your own world, and loving yourself more than anything else. This is the philosophy of today. "Do what feels good", "Get what you want now". It's no wonder why society today mocks marriage and faithful husbands and wives.
The key to avoiding adultery is maintaining faithfulness to God.
