Perseverance of the Saints
Series 19th Century Classics
Asahel Nettleton (1783-1844) is America's forgotten evangelist. Born in Connecticut, Nettleton's preaching was used by God in the conversion of over 30,000 souls during what is known as America's 'Second Great Awakening.'
Nettleton was vehemently opposed to the 'new measures' and the 'anxious bench' popularized by Charles Grandison Finney. Finney's new measures and use of the 'anxious bench' were the predecessors to today's 'altar call.'
In this sermon, read by Jon Cardwell, Nettleton delivers an excellent, logical look at the important doctrine of the PERSEVERANCE OF THE SAINTS. This sermon is one of Jon's very favorites.
This full sermon was included in the book written by Dr. Bennet Tyler entitled, 'The Remains of the Late Rev. Asahel Nettleton.' Published in 1845, the book and the sermon are in the public domain.
