Stirred But Not Shaken

173 ( 151 | 22 )

This week, in Hebrews 12:18-29, we hear another warning from the author– "See that you do not refuse him who is speaking." There is no escape for those who reject the one who warns us from heaven. Instead, they, together with the heavens and the earth, will be shaken and everything which does not remain will be removed. And yet, the response urged by the writer is not one of terror, but of thanksgiving. How can this be? Because, in Christ, we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Through him, we have not only come to the city of the living God, but have been made members of his righteous, unshakeable kingdom community.
In all that shakes us up, and all that shakes around us we, who listen to and trust in Christ, can be confident that we will remain. So, let's not refuse him who is speaking to us. Instead, "let us offer acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire."
