Remembering the Reformation Pt. 1: Good Works Are Mortal Sins

The third thesis found in Luther's Heidelberg Disputation states what Luther learned from reading scripture: Although the works of man always seem attractive and good, they are nevertheless likely to be mortal sins. It turns out that the Reformation of the 16th century was grounded in the "reformation" of the 1st century. What Luther was taught by the medieval masters was that the gospel was about "doing your best" and what Luther learned from Paul and the 1st century "reformation" was that "you best won’t do."
