Destined for Eternal Glory

67 ( 48 | 19 )

The revelation of the glory of God lies at the heart of the gospel. The gospel can even be described as 'the gospel of the glory of Christ' (2 Cor 4:4) or 'the gospel of the glory of the blessed God' (1 Timothy 1:11). Glory is certainly what people are looking for and, whether it is found in human beings or in the creation, it reflects something of the grandeur that we were made for. It is not our desire for glory that is necessarily wrong but the passion to have such glory independent of the glorious Father whose majesty is above all and in all and through all.

Formed to reflect His glory we instead seek our own glory which is really our shame. That God has called us by His own goodness and glory to participate in His divine life is beyond telling but tell it we must in order to escape the corrupt and passing glories of this present age.

Knowing that as those made in His image we have the immense capacity to reflect His glory and that through the gospel we are presently being transformed with ever increasing glory into His likeness is the biblical antidote to living for lesser things. This great rejoicing in the expectation of sharing His glory is kept alive in our hearts by the struggles and difficulties that keep us dependant and undeceived by the hidden pretensions of imagining that we can achieve any true and lasting glory without Him.
