In verse 18, Paul may have intended for these spatial dimensions (nouns rather than adjectives in the Greek—breadth, length, height, depth) to bring to readers' minds the temple image of 2:21. As living stones are linked in love, God's dwelling place grows and is filled with Christ himself. God uses the love that is shared among "all the saints"—Jews and Gentiles alike—to build a whole that is greater than any of the individual parts and, in this setting, to give each member a greater grasp of Christ's love than any could attain individually.
