Blessed Are The Pure In Heart

Thesis: While it is true that this sin-cursed world does bring alot of sadness, Jesus shows in the Beatitudes that the Christian has spiritual happiness that is real and eternal.

1. MEANING OF PURE IN HEART
   A. What is the Heart?
   • Control center of person's will, mind, desires
   • Metaphor for place of thought within a person
   • Place we ascribe where emotions to take place
   • Source of true worship
   • Source/origin of sin:
     • Lust (heart) gives way to adultery
     • Anger (heart) leads to hate,murder

B. How Can Heart Be Pure?
* "spotless", "void of impurities"
* Spiritually: single-minded devotion
* Through mercy of God's saving grace
* Not outward appearance, but inner-man:
- motive, desire, purpose
- i.e. pleasing God vs pleasing man

2. PURE HEARTED WORSHIP AND LIVING

   • Pursues the things of God and righteousness
   • Flees youthful passions, lust

3. THE PURE IN HEART SEE GOD

   • Christian sees God now - Gospel is unveiled to the believer
   • Bible promises future sight of God as He is for the believer
