20 - "The World" in John 3

In I John 2:15 Christians are told "do not love the world." In the Gospel of John chapter 3 Jesus declares that "God so loved the world" that He gave His only begotten Son for its redemption.
How are both things true, without paradox or contradiction? To answer this question, and to understand how the answer supports the doctrine of separation, we must first of all understand the meaning of the word "world" in its context in these passages.
