The Climax of Jewish Opposition - Stephen's Defense, Part Two

166

Stephen continued his defense by rehearsing the history of Moses and the Law and their relationship with the people of Israel. As before, his intention wasn't to exonerate himself, but to show his accusers that they - and the nation of Israel as a whole - were guilty of the very charges leveled against him. They were guilty of opposing the holy place, Moses and the Law because they refused to see their fulfillment and meaning in Jesus of Nazareth. To be a disciple of Moses and follower of the Law, one must listen to them, and both spoke of and directed men toward the coming Messiah and the need to believe in Him and find their righteousness and restoration to Yahweh in Him.
