Purging the Emerging!

957

Will we recover the passion of Jude? He preferred to speak of the joys of salvation, but instead had to write to exhort the Church to contend for the faith that was under attack from within.

'Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.' (Jude 3-4)

In this sermon the errant philosophies and worldliness of the Emergent movement are exposed through extensive quotes from Doug Pagitt's books, Church Re-imagined and Preaching Re-imagined. While his writing doesn't speak for the entire movement, it is indicative of the basic philosophical paradigm present in the movement as a whole. Let us embrace the instruction of Jude in the spirit of Nehemiah 13!
