Felt Religion
Series Series in Jeremiah (2014-2017)
46
Aim: To employ the palpability of our faith to the greatest ends.
Doctrine: Sincere Christians actually experience God through Jesus Christ. There is no such thing as solely ''cerebral'' Christianity. Those who do not feel, do not live.
Exegesis: Three realms of felt religion: the soul feels the consequences of sin (vv. 17-19), the alarm of judgment (vv. 20-22), and the comfort of grace (vv. 23-25).
Further application: How to enjoy felt religion: let us abandon all worrisome self-preservation, and be courageous soldiers of the cross.
Key verse: v. 19 ''Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is severe. But I say, 'Truly this is an infirmity, and I must bear it.'''
