The Trial of the King

Jesus was arrested, tried, falsely accused, and condemned by the religious and political authorities of His day, both Jew and Gentile. He refused to defend Himself, but freely confessed the He was the Messiah prophesied about in the OT and expected by the nation of Israel. The problem was that the kingdom they expected was a physical kingdom, which was evident by their political opposition. Peter also exposed his false understanding of the nature of the kingdom when he drew his sword and attacked the servant of the high priest.
Sadly, things have not changed in the centuries that have passed. Satan's dark kingdom seeks to overthrow God kingdom of light. He uses the kingdoms of this world to oppose God; and that means His followers on earth, the church of the living God. Jesus made in clear. If the world hates us, it is because they hated Him first.
