Romans 9:1-9

Admittedly, these three chapters are the subject of a great amount of debate, and I am about to get in over my head.
It is from this section of Scripture that the following false idea has been developed.
Has God broken his promises? If Christ was the true Messiah, as taught by Paul, and he was rejected by the Jewish nation, and the destruction of the nation is at hand, then has not God broken his promises?
