The Hated Coat
Series Series in Genesis
28
Aim: To be clothed in Christ's righteousness, and to represent Him well to the world.
Why the saints' covering is despised: because it convicts of sin and it represents Christ's kingdom.
Exegesis: The significance of the hated coat: it identifies us as God's beloved (vv. 1-4), God's royalty (vv. 5-8), and God's witnesses (vv. 9-11).
Further application: Our uses of the hated coat: wear it boldly, keep it clean, and bear its cross.
Key verse: v. 3 ''Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors.''
