The Sixth Commandment certainly confronts mankind with its deepest of crimes against itself, that of the taking of human life. From Adam's first sin that brought death itself into the world, and next Cain's killing of Abel, and to the cross of Christ, where God's people put the Son of God to death - man is a murderous creature, and if not outwardly, then inwardly by hatred towards others we are commanded to love. Let us examine with the Shorter Catechism, the commandment and its requirements:
- Life is God's Gift
- Man's Duty is to Preserve it
