Freedom Flowing From Fullness
Series Colossians
The Colossian Christians were being sold the lie that Christ was not a sufficient Saviour and Lord: that the work of the cross and resurrection was unable, on its own, to justify them fully or keep them safe for the powers of evil. They felt that they needed to supplement Christ with works of the Law and Pagan rituals, in a strange mish-mash of syncretistic religion - a mix not too dissimilar to the ideas abroad in today's pluralistic world. However, as Paul has been proclaiming to them, our fulness in Christ means we are free both from the condemning demands of the Law, and from the spiritual powers on darkness active in this world. This freedom means we are no longer subject to the judgement of the law of the legalist, or 'disqualified' from the elitism of pagan spirituality; rather we are united with Jesus our Head and source of life and freedom - and what freedom it is!
