Some contemporary folk have wanted to see Deborah as a proto-feminist blazing a trial for women pastors, etc. But is this, in truth, how she is presented in Judges 4? No. She is a reluctant leader. The very fact that she must serve as Judge illustrates the spiritual decline of Israel in the days of the Judges.
