Galatians: Conflict, Compromise & Cooperation
92
Paul confronted Peter when he came to Antioch and took a stand against him. Why? Peter compromised his convictions. He ate with Gentiles. However, when the Jews from Jerusalem (false teachers, legalists) came, he withdrew himself and only ate Kosher. God had already shown Peter (through a vision) that he no longer had to keep the Old Testament dietary restrictions. The council at Jerusalem, had also made it clear that salvation is by faith alone apart from works. Peter was compromising - he had become "two-faced", preaching one thing and practicing another.
The Conclusion (verse 15 and 16): Jews and Gentiles need Jesus as Messiah! "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
