Prayer and Death
Series Snapshots from Luke's Gospel
16
All creation is enveloped in darkness as its Lord and Savior suffers and dies. With prayer (and a psalm) on his lips, Jesus entrusts himself into the Father's hand, knowing that glory awaits him. His redemptive life and death have not been in vain, as the rending of the Temple's veil shows. In this context, Jesus's simple prayer, loudly spoken to the Father, teaches us about all prayer and assures us of the fruitfulness of Christ's prayers to the Father. Since Christ died and is raised, let us be a people of personal and corporate prayer, entrusting ourselves into the Father's good and strong hands.
